DesignTalks x Dan Matutina at Ayala Museum

Ayala Museum brings back the signature lecture series, DesignTalks, for another year and presents the creative mind of Philippine design’s most iconic graphic artist and illustrator—Dan Matutina on May 31, Saturday at 3:00 PM.

One of the most down-to-earth graphic designers and illustrators in the country—whose work spans various media from commercials, magazines, furniture, slippers, maps, and even food, Dan Matutina has distinct style of combining the old and modern, handmade and digital, the clean and dirty, which makes him one of the stand outs of the creative community both here and abroad.

The journey of this highly-talented artist to becoming a creative juggernaut started in his home town of Tacloban City, growing up reading encyclopedias, science fiction, and comics. After attending a technical science high school, he pursued Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines, graduating cum laude and receiving an award for best thesis.

Today, Dan’s list of accomplishments—not to mention a client list boasting of big names such as the Wall Street Journal, Google, Heineken, Nike, and Coca-Cola—reads like a creative’s dream bucket list.

He has co-founded Plus63 Design Co. in 2011 and has worked for and with the biggest names in the creative industry, producing incredible designs and winning numerous accolades in the process.

Beyond illustration and design work, Dan has also served as a lecturer at the University of the Philippines, participated in international fine art exhibitions, and judged in various design competitions. To cap it all off, he was also named one of the Art Directors Club’s Young Guns of 2013 in New York.

Since its inception in 2010, the DesignTalks lecture series boasts a premier roster of speakers who have demonstrated their excellence in various creative fields—from fashion, interior and furniture design, jewelry, videography, advertising and graphic apparel.

Ayala Museum initiated these lectures to educate and inspire Filipinos who aspire to be part of the creative industry. The series also helps promote and situate the local design panorama.

Admission to the talk is P300 and comes with a museum day pass.
Students, teachers, senior citizens, and Ayala Museum members may avail of a discounted rate of P200 if they present a valid ID upon purchase.
